Prepare a doctor visit
Not a diagnosis and not a lab order. A list of what to bring, what to ask and which values are often missing — for a first panel aimed at ageing well, or for the next conversation about a report you already have.
A first picture, not the largest panel
The brief is built from markers that respond to diet and exercise and for which guidelines and trials exist. A standard check-up often only includes lipids and glucose. ApoB, fasting insulin, ferritin and uric acid usually have to be requested. This is a conversation starter, not a longevity protocol.
What is still missing for a complete picture?

If ApoB is not measured
LDL cholesterol
LDL-C appears on many reports. It measures the cholesterol content of the particles and can disagree with ApoB, especially when triglycerides are high.
Two extra questions
Lipoprotein(a)
Largely genetically fixed. The 2019 ESC/EAS guideline recommends measuring it once in a lifetime.
Has Lp(a) been measured for me even once? If not, could we add it to today's order?
about €17.49–20.11
What this roughly costs
In Germany a standard check-up often includes lipids, glucose, creatinine and liver enzymes. ApoB, fasting insulin, ferritin, hsCRP, Lp(a) and transferrin saturation are usually self-pay.
For the extra values from this list that are still missing: about €80.44–92.51.
The blood draw and shipping are extra. Labs bill self-pay work under the GOÄ at 1.0× or 1.15×. This is orientation, not a quote.
How lab prices work in Germany
Statutory insurers pay via the EBM when the practice considers a value indicated. Everything else is IGeL / self-pay and follows the GOÄ. Which values are measured is the doctor's decision. Figures as of 2026 from several German labs — not an offer from Offset.
How you might put it
01
Could we add ApoB, fasting insulin, ferritin and uric acid to the order? They are missing from many standard reports.
02
Lipoprotein(a) once in a lifetime — that is what the 2019 ESC/EAS guideline recommends.
03
If ferritin is measured: transferrin saturation and CRP with it, otherwise it stays unclear whether iron or inflammation is driving the figure.
04
Fasting, at least eight hours, no alcohol the evening before. Otherwise triglycerides and glucose track the last meal.
